Household projections

Household projections are produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government and are linked to the latest Office for National Statistics Sub National Population Projections. The projections are trend-based and indicate the number of additional households that would form if recent demographic trends continue.

Methodology

The current methodology in England reflects work to improve the household projections outputs and methods to better meet user needs. This work culminated in a technical consultation exercise in March 2010 - Consultation on proposed changes to the National Statistics on household projections and a response to this consultation exercise - Proposed changes to the National Statistics on household projections: Summary of responses to consultation (published 6 August 2010).

Archive

The 2006-based projections have been replaced by the 2008-based projections but information about these can be found in Statistical Release: Household projections to 2031, England (published 11 March 2009).
