Local government

Capital and assets pathfinder programme

The Department has been working closely with 11 pathfinder areas (Cambridgeshire, Durham, Hackney, Hampshire, Hull, Leeds, Leicester/Leicestershire, Solihull, Swindon, Wigan and Worcestershire) to better use the land and buildings that the public sector own in those areas to improve services and generate savings. Areas demonstrated a possible reduction in floorspace of between 10 and 29 per cent.

For more information on what local areas have been able to achieve see local initiatives.

The approach involves organisations being clear about the demands customers place on services, the buildings they and their public sector partners own (preferably on a map showing their location) and the funding streams available to a local area.
