Building Regulations and The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010

The Building Regulations 2000 and The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2000, and all amendments to both were revoked from 1 October 2010, and are therefore no longer in effect. You should therefore refer to the Building Regulations 2010 and the Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010 and their regulation numbers.

The 2010 Regulations in both cases consolidate the Building Regulations 2000 and the Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2000 incorporating all of the amendments made since 2000. Both sets of the 2010 Regulations have been renumbered and reordered to make them easier to use and with a more logical structure.

The new consolidated Building Regulations 2010 can be found on Legislation.gov.uk (see links, top right, under 'On other sites').

Amendments

The Building (Amendment) Regulations 2012(SI 2012/718) will come into force on the 6 April 2012 and should be read in conjunction with Building Regulations 2010 (see links, top right, under 'On other sites').

The Building (Amendment) Regulations 2011(SI 2011/1515) came into force on the 15 July 2011 and should be read in conjunction with Building Regulations 2010 (see links, top right, under 'On other sites').

Circulars

The department has published the following circulars (see below under "Related Publications") which help to explain the regulations:

  • Circular (02/2011) make clears the amendments made by the Building (Amedment) Regulations 2011
  • Circular (07/2010) sets out and explains the two sets of regulations (SI 2010/2214) and (SI 2010/2215). Annexes A and B of this Circular set out in tabular form all the changes in numbering and order of provisions in the previous Regulations made by the consolidation of the two sets of Regulations.
