Summary
The latest UK house price index statistics produced by Communities and Local Government were released on Tuesday 16 November 2010.
The latest statistics release includes data based on mortgage completions during the month of September 2010.
The key points from the release are:
- in September UK house prices increased by 6.1 per cent over the year but fell by 0.8 per cent over the month (seasonally adjusted)
- the average mix-adjusted UK house price was £211,815 in September (not seasonally adjusted)
- average UK house prices were 0.7 per cent lower over the quarter to September 2010 compared to a quarterly increase of 1.6 per cent in June (seasonally adjusted)
- average prices increased over the year in England (6.5 per cent), Scotland (1.4 per cent) and Wales (8.8 per cent) but fell in Northern Ireland (-7.6 per cent)
- prices paid by first time buyers were 4.6 per cent higher on average than a year earlier whilst prices paid by former owner occupiers increased by 6.7 per cent
- prices paid for new properties were 5.6 per cent higher on average than a year earlier whilst prices for pre-owned dwellings increased by 6.2 per cent.
