Summary

The Department for Communities and Local Government commissioned the Building Research Establishment to evaluate the current method for allocating the Disabled Facilities Grant to local authorities, with a view to proposing new methods that were simpler, fairer and more transparent.

Regarding the allocations, the Building Research Establishment approach takes into account disability related benefit claimants; proportion of propulation over 60 years of age; proportion of Local authority owned housing stock; and, regional variations in building costs, in order to provide a relative needs weighted index.
