The document contains the results of a project that aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the ventilation systems for dwellings described in Approved Document Part F and to propose methods for improving the effectiveness if and where required.
A multi-zone air flow and pollutant transport simulation tool has been used to determine the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) outcomes of installing a range of ventilation systems in representative dwelling types designed following the guidance in Approved Document F (2006). Standardised occupancy schedules, pollutant emission profiles and presumed reasonable occupant behaviour were simulated.
As a consequence, the results are internally consistent and are comparable across all considered system types and dwellings. The results assist in understanding system performance, although they do not provide predictions of actual performance.
