This research, commissioned by the previous government, is being published in the interests of transparency. The views and analysis expressed in this report are those of the authors and are not intended to reflect the current or future views or policies of the current government.

The Department for Communities and Local Government is publishing this report alongside the 2012 consultation on changes to the Building Regulations as some of the findings in it are discussed in that consultation and used in the Impact Assessments that accompany it (see Related publications below).

This research report looks at a number of changes to Approved Document guidance associated to the introduction of new structural design codes (Eurocodes), to disproportionate collapse, to fixings, to flooding, to Radon, and with general updating of Approved Documents A and C.
