This research, commissioned by the previous government, is being published in the interests of transparency. The views and analysis expressed in this report are those of the authors and are not intended to reflect the current or future views or policies of the current government.
The Department for Communities and Local Government is publishing this report alongside the 2012 consultation on changes to the Building Regulations as some of the findings in it are discussed in that consultation and used in the Impact Assessments that accompany it (see Related publications below).
This document sets out a risk assessment approach that can be used by Building Control Bodies, both local authority building control and private sector Approved Inspectors, for when developing service schedules for the inspection of building work. It covers both common projects such as loft conversions and more complex and larger projects such as hospitals.
