West Midlands
The West Midlands is one of nine regions to qualify for Competitiveness and Employment funding.
Under the 2007-13 Programme, the region can receive €400m of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) investment.
Priorities
The West Midlands Operational Programme Document outlines the investment priorities for the region. It focuses on four main priorities:
-
Priority 1 - Promoting Innovation and Research and Development
Aims to improve the region's capacity to translate innovation into commercial outcomes that result in a step change in business productivity and performance. A particular focus is on the region's high class science base, notably its universities and research institutions.
-
Priority 2 - Stimulating Enterprise Development
Aims to increase enterprise in the West Midlands in order to improve regional economic performance. This is being achieved through the provision of tailored business support together with a limited range of integrated access to finance measures.
-
Priority 3 - Achieving Sustainable Urban Development
Aims to address the significant concentrations of economic need in certain areas of the region and seeks to generate major employment opportunities accessible to those communities.
-
Priority 4 - Developing Inter-Regional Activity
Aims to support the three main priorities in tackling problems that are applicable to the region and to maximise learning from current and future inter-regional activity by developing mutually beneficial relationships with partners in the EU via study visits; work shadowing; exchange of professional expertise; workshops; case studies and conferences.
