National Youth Homelessness Scheme

About us

The National Youth Homelessness Scheme originated in Government's commitment to tackle and prevent youth homelessness announced by Ruth Kelly MP in November 2006. The Communities and Local Government Homelessness Team has commissioned this website and is pursuing a number of other initiatives geared to enabling local authorities to respond to young people's needs through effective youth homelessness strategies.

Other initiatives include:

  • work with the Department for Children, Schools and families (DCSF) to develop good practice and statutory guidance on joint working
  • advice and support to local authorities and their partners from Youth Homelessness Specialist Advisers
  • work with voluntary sector agencies including Depaul Nightstop UK, Fostering Network, YMCA England and NCAS (part of Catch-22) to support local areas to develop and sustain Nightstop and supported lodgings services
